David Thomas has been busy in 2016, lookout 2017!

Following showings at the Royal Portrait Society in London, David has been busy fulfilling watercolour portrait commissions from London to Darlington. (value circa. £5,000) The Northern commission being for Chris Foote-Wood (brother of Victoria Wood). Watercolour portraiture is still relatively rare compared to Oil paintings, but it is certainly becoming more mainstream. I think in part to the popularity of the highly successful TV programme Portrait Artist of the Year! (Which David also entered). Busy times ahead I think! His new book...

North Yorkshire Artist Jo and I enjoyed putting together the first appearance in Hull of her wonderfully observed and humorous animal paintings which are featured on her nationally sold range of greetings cards and stationery. Jo is also displaying some of her working studies to show the transition of initial idea to final artwork. The exhibition which runs from 6th-24th June was timed to support the RSPCA’s national animal week (6-12th) when Vicky OGrady, a trustee of the local centre, has ably coordinated a competition of school children’s...

Geoff Groome and the team at the Freedom Centre were extremely helpful in working with us to display Ade’s work around the place last week. It’s a great opportunity for local people to get to see Ade’s range of highly original paintings and clay sculptures. You can read more about him here. Together we are looking into the feasibility of a series of workshops to be run over the summer by Ade, to inspire local Adults and Children to feel free to express their own Creative talents. Many (not to be tweeted) secrets were shared with the attendees about the art and business of filmmaking. Personal moments were also recounted such as listening to Michael Caine on the phone trying to persuade Mark he could do a Rochdale accent for the film Little Voice. Better he remained believable as a retired Cockney talent scout in Scarborough thought Mark, where the film was...

Baker Tilly event Prize Draw Winner – John Flanagan!

On the night of the Baker Tilly event last month The 1 Gallery offered their own prize to opted-in attendees – a framed print of a drawing by me from a Frank Reynolds image. Frank Reynolds (1876 – 1953) is in many peoples opinion one of the finest artist’s engaged in the art of “Cartoon” making ever to appear in Punch, the satirical magazine. His wit and draughtsmanship in capturing the mood of an interlude between Britain’s of the time (1890’s – 1940’s) is in my opinion unrivalled. He was also famous for his illustrations...
