Meg Burkill

There is a very strong graphic feel to Meg’s recent work that I as a Designer certainly connect with. Her bold shape delineation and unique colour pallette make her carefully observed subjects, whether a fishing boat, an electricity pylon or indeed the bicycles here in this collection, pop off the wall!

Bold “energy light rays” stream out occasionally. Along with strident shapes that add an extra quality to the surface and composition.

She has a keen eye for engineered structures. Her father Brian Jones, as Chief Engineering Designer for Triumph Motorcycles is famous for the design and development of the classic Triumph Bonneville!

Meg has a confident and expressive style all of her own. You can spot a Burkill anywhere. Which in today’s crowded art world is no mean feat.

In this “Parked Bicycle Series” one can’t help feeling that to each waiting bicycle, an accompanying narrative is about to unfold.

Working from her studio in Hornsea, a small East Yorkshire coastal town some 20 miles east of Hull, her work has mainly been exhibited in East Yorkshire and has been selected for the prestigious Hull Ferens Art Gallery Open Exhibitions many times (prizewinner 2009).

With the interest in the Tour de Yorkshire, Meg’s work is well placed to catch favour within Yorkshire and Europe with the mounting interest in all things two wheeled!

The “Parked Bicycle Series”  originals and prints are available from The 1 Gallery.
